Civil Requirements for British Citizens

Getting married in Italy involves providing specific documents from your home country that certify your identity and that there are no legal impediments to your marriage.

Below is a list of documents you will need to get married in Italy. These procedure can be easily done via correspondence and our office can assist you step by step supervising that all your documents are properly completed.

IN UK

You both need to Publish the Banns at your local registry office.

Your Certificate of Non Impediment will be released after 21 clear days.

You will need to obtain the necessary Certificate of Non Impediment producing the following documents:

Full birth certificate (showing parents' names) 

British Passport (copy of passport if you are applying from outside of Italy)

Evidence of termination of any previous marriage of both parties, if applicable, (i.e. death certificate of divorce decree absolute) together with the previous marriage certificate. 

Deed-poll showing change of name. In cases where the name on the birth certificate differs from the one on the passport, (except following marriage),

 

IN ITALY

UK Certificate of No Impediment has to be presented to the Consular office in whose district your marriage will take place, together with the following documents:

Long Form of Birth certificates (showing name of parents). Original document 

Passport; first 5 pages of old format passport or last page of new European format 

Evidence of termination of any previous marriage if applicable (i.e. death certificate or divorce decree absolute) together with the previous marriage certificate

Deed -poll showing change of name.

The Consulate will release Nulla Ostas (the documents necessary for your marriage in Italy). They will be sent to us by mail or our coordinator will pick them up and bring to the wedding hall where you will be married.

One or two days before the ceremony you will have to make the Declaration of Intent to Marry at the Wedding Hall. (our coordinator will assist you).

Fees for issuing  Nulla Osta: 

Euro 78,00 (each) + Euro  10.00 for postal charges. (Cost may vary from Consular Offices and are subject to change).  All fees are payable in euro only. And the total must be sent by an international bank draft made out to 'British Consulate'.

PAPERWORK PROCUDERES CAN BE SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT IF:

Both are British Citizens nor resident in UK 

British National is marrying a non-British National, and resides in Italy

British National Is marrying a non - British National and resides in UK (except Scotland)

British National is marrying an Irish citizen and resides in UK 

British National is residing in Scotland
