Duchy of Parma Piacenza Wedding
The Dukedom of Parma and Piacenza went through over 300 years of history,
but the fortresses and castles that are on this land preserve much ancient
memories; Noble families, feudal lords, condottiere lived between those
walls adventures that tell stories of courage to oppose the enemies in this
land of border and large transit. Tell patrons that called for great artists to give glory to their residences,
refined courts, loves sweets and full of passion.
The Castles were homes, defensive bulwarks, and centers of power until 1545
when they becoming a State: the Dukedom of Parma and Piacenza.
The Duchy was created by the will of Pope Paul III Farnese who joined Parma
e Piacenza under a single crown for his son Pier Luigi; and the Farnese family raised
the International prestige of this small State during their reign.
With the Congress of Vienna, convened in 1815, the Duke of Parma, Piacenza
and Guastalla is assigned to Marie Louise of Austria, wife of Napoleon.
On the death of the beloved Sovereign the territory back to the Bourbon
dynasty until annexation to the Kingdom of Italy in 1860.

and the Po just an hour's drive from Milan.
