A Positano Wedding: words are not enough to describe the feelings and emotions provoked by this cliff-side village with pastel-shaded houses precariously clinging to the rocky cliff, lemon and jasmine-scented streets, olive groves and turquoise sea. In the words of John Steinbeck, "Positano bites deep. It is a dream place that isn't quite real when you're there but becomes beckoningly real after you have gone".
A Positano wedding can combines the beauty of its numerous beaches with the fascination of its ancient fishing port. The town itself is very smart, spiralling around terraces shaded by palms, lemon-trees, flower-filled gardens and cascading, multi-coloured bougainvillaea. Lots of little cafes and typical restaurants, a myriad of colorful shops and boutiques offering clothing, famously known as 'Positano fashion' born in the 50's with it's brightly colored fabrics loved by stylish women.
Positano was once part of the powerful Republic of Amalfi, and played its part in international trading despite the lack of a harbour. Surviving Saracen raids, the town thrived and in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries was famous for its trading with the East. Impressive palazzi were built; several are now romantically crumbling, others have been converted into luxury hotels. With the onset of the industrial revolution, harbourless Positano could not compete with rival ports, and had to wait until the birth of the tourist industry to regain its wealthy status.
The center of the town is enchanting: among the delightful white or pastel-colored houses, stands the Moorish Church with its splendid majolica dome. The marriage hall has a wonderful terrace overlooking the ocean and the little cubic houses. You can have your Wedding outside! And the stunning view will be a magic fairytale backdrop!!
