From Riomaggiore starts the most romantic path of Italy, the so-called
Path of Love.
The Path of Love is a scenic path, carved into a cliff that sheer to the sea, long
about a mile connecting Riomaggiore to Manarola. Along the way there are
spots with stone benches from where you can admire the sea, enchanted by the
changing spectacle of sea and light. Each bench is dedicated to a mythological
character and it includes quotes from famous love poems. The most famous
bench is called “Bella Elena” from where you can enjoy one of the most
striking views of Italian Riviera..
Riomaggiore is perched around the beautiful Church of St. John the Baptist,
built in 1340, but the charm of the village comes mainly from the traditional
unique houses that are all tall, thin and painted in a bright pastel color and it
appears especially in the evening when the little boats with bright colors are
pulled along the dry inland offering images lost in time.
Riomaggiore is also renowned for its famous wines; in particular you cannot
leave this medieval village without tasting the Sciacchetrà, an aromatic white
wine cultivated in the nearby hills.
